Quality Safety Edge’s Angelica Grindle recently presented a one-day, introduction to behavior-based safety (BBS) workshop at Montana’s SafetyFestMT, held in Billings. Grindle came away pleased at the positive reception of her class and with the experience of meeting and sharing strategies with other safety professionals. “The event is chockful of great information,” she says.
SafetyFestMT began when a group of Montanans decided it was time to change their state’s poor safety record. This committed group then pulled together sponsors and supporters to bring their concept to fruition. As their Web site explains, “The idea is straightforward: provide high-quality safety training for Montana’s workers at little or no cost, in a format that meets the safety needs of the work they do.” The safety training, workshops, and instruction have since proved a huge success: the first two events attracted more than 500 attendees including workers, contractors, and business owners. The sessions are free to any Montana worker, and to make the event more accessible SafetyFestMT is hitting the road with upcoming dates in locations across the state. (The next scheduled show takes place December 5-9, 2011 in Missoula.)
