Safety Culture System Assessment

What is “Safety Culture”?

“Safety Culture” may be thought of as what people in your organization say to one another and what they do related to safety. Both peers and leaders influence employee and management actions that contribute to the success of your safety initiatives and prevent injuries. These variables are rarely written down; they are the unspoken rules, expectations, and values of employees and management.

World class safety cultures requires two things, safety systems that actively engage employees and world class safety leadership. The things leaders do and say create your safety culture which in turn either supports or discourages employee involvement in your safety improvement initiatives. Without the right leadership support, eventually you hit a wall—progress slows down, employees’ engagement in safety decreases, incidents increase.
